New York Times Offers Unpaid Student Internship For Credit Despite Criticizing Practice In Editorial

The New York Times published an editorial on Sunday praising New York University and Columbia for moving away from unpaid internships, highlighting Columbia in particular for its decision to stop offering academic credit for them, as they “mostly functioned as a fig leaf for employers, who could pretend that the credit somehow justified not paying for a student’s work.”

While the newspaper’s editorial board operates independently from its newsroom, it was a little striking then to see the TimesMarch 3 job listing for an unpaid spring semester video intern.

The ideal candidate will work between 10 and 20 hours a week “for school credit” and must be “enrolled in a greater NYC-area college pursuing a full-time degree in a related creative field,” according to the posting from March 3. The other five internships on the company’s website are paid positions.

Unpaid internships have been a hot-button issue, with a report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers showing last year that they make up roughly half the internships taken by the graduating class of 2013. The Times has been called out before for reporting on the questionable legality of unpaid internships then offering such jobs itself.

A Times spokesperson didn’t immediately reply to an email and voicemail after regular business hours seeking comment.

First ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 2’ Trailer Is Here And Baby Groot Is The Star

Hands down, Baby Groot is the star of the first Guardians of theGalaxy Vol. 2 trailer.

With its May release date fast approaching, it was only a matter of time until we saw some concrete updates from Marvels oddball space-action franchise.

Today we got just that as the movies first poster and mini-trailer were uploaded to the web, and boy effing howdy does this movie look like its going to kick major Groot.

James Gunn, who wrote and directed both Guardians movies, uploaded the movies first poster to his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages in preparation of the mini-trailers release.

In case you missed it, Baby Groot also makes a small cameo on the poster.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista and Glenn Close are all set to make their return in GOTG2. Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel are also coming back to voice Rocket and Groot, respectively.

Sylvester Stallone is the most notable addition to the franchise, securing a mystery role in the sequel. Kurt Russell will also be making his Guardians debut as Ego The Living Planet.

The entire internet has joined forces to communally freak out over the trailers release.

If there is one winner from the trailer, though, its CLEARLY Baby Groot.

Marvel is going to make 100 trillion dollars off this little tree alien.

I guarantee you there is some conference room on the studio lot full of executives lighting cigars on fire and popping champagne with giant swords you know, fancy people style because theyre all celebrating how much merchandising money theyre going to make off this thing.

Its got the kickass-ness of The Iron Giant character with the cuddly-ness of those Minion things children are obsessed with currently.

Plus, its wearing a leather jacket.

Baby Groot on Rockets shoulder is this years BB-8.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
